Artifact: Hurling Lesson Plan
Element: 3.3
Date: 10/29/10
Reflection: I made this lesson plan for a class that I taught in EDU 255- Basics of Effective Instruction in Physical Education.  My task for this lesson was to teach a lesson on a sport that is from another country that we do not play in the US.  I chose to teach a lesson on the sport of hurling from Ireland.  Although I did not have access to all the equipment that is used in hurling, I had my students use rackets and tennis balls.  This was a successful lesson, I was able to expand my teaching horizons.

Artifact: Hip-Hop Lesson Plan
Element: 3.7
Date: 11/19/10
Reflection: I made this lesson plan for a class that I taught in EDU 255- Basics of Effective Instruction in Physical Education.  My task for this lesson was to reach a lesson on hip-hop.  When I was told that I would have to teach a lesson on hip-hop, I had no clue what I was going to do.  Other than not being a dancer of any kind, hip-hop is not on the top of the list of music genres that I listen to.  Not only was I supposed to teach hip-hop, I also had to use technology in my lesson.  After choosing my dance to teach I decided to use a projector and speakers to show different videos, tutorials, and play music.  Some other equipment I used were ropes and blindfolds.

I was able to use all of the equipment very successfully but my most succesful pieces of equipment were the blindfolds.  I was able to have my students put on the blindfolds when I felt that they began to get shy.  When they put on the blindfolds, it gave them a feeling that no one could see them.  This allowed them to relax and also allowed me to get through the lesson while adding some extra fun.  This and the positive feedback that I gave allowed the students to confidently get through the lesson.
This lesson allowed me to show that I am able to teach lessons on short notice whether I am familiar with the material or not.
